How to Be Eco-Friendly with Your Marketing Efforts

Most of the time, as marketers, we’re thinking about how to get more people in our doors both physically and virtually. However, there comes a time when we should pause to consider other factors at play with our marketing efforts, like how to be environmentally conscious while still trying to tackle the business landscape. In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd, take this opportunity to reevaluate your marketing campaigns and practices to ensure you’re doing the best you can to go green with your campaigns. Below, check out ways you can consider the environment with your printing jobs!

Cut As Much Waste As Possible

One of the easiest ways to ensure you’re eco-friendly with your marketing materials is to cut waste where you can. Make sure if you’re sending a direct mail campaign that your intended audience is the one getting your message in the mail. If your lists are outdated and your message goes to the wrong recipient, your marketing efforts will undoubtedly end up in the trash.

Also, be mindful of the waste created when designing your marketing materials. You’ll want to proofread your materials carefully before they hit the printer to avoid any unnecessary re-prints, resulting in wasted materials. Avoid using more materials than necessary and look for economical ways to print, such as recycled paper and eco-friendly ink. More on that below!

Use Eco-Friendly Materials

What once was old can be new again. Cut down on waste by using recycled paper or choosing paper that can be easily recycled in the future. Look for packaging that states the paper is recycled or recyclable.

Plus, there are a variety of inks out there that are vegetable or algae-based, which is easier on the environment. Soy or water-based inks are not harmful to the environment and a great option for sustainable printing.

Print on Lasting Products

Consider upgrading your marketing materials from something that might get discarded after one use to something that can be used over and over again. Coffee mugs or sustainable fashion are great choices to ensure lasting wear and multiple uses. Get creative and have a brainstorming session with your team to think outside the box for your printed materials! Where could you put a logo that’s useful time and time again?

Incorporate Digital Efforts

The key to successful marketing campaigns involves marrying both online and offline efforts. Consider when it might be appropriate to save postage and paper by sending your message digitally and when it’s worth printing to make a lasting impression with a physical mailer. When printing a physical material, consider how you can cut down on environmental impact by using the sustainable options above and when you think the mailer will leave a lasting impact.

This Earth Day, how will your marketing team commit to going green? Remember that you can still print materials while being environmentally conscious. Choose recycled materials, recyclable paper, safe inks and lasting products. Plus, cut waste where you can. Join us in celebrating Mother Nature and the Earth we all call home on April 22nd!
